What is a Waxless Toilet Seal?
The waxless seal is a rubber ring that replaces the wax ring on your toilet. It provides a water-tight connection between the toilet and the drainpipe in your floor. It is designed to be reused instead of being replaced each time you remove your toilet for servicing. A professional plumber can install it without disturbing any plumbing fixtures or walls.
How does waxless toilet seal works?
The seal sits inside the drain opening, under the toilet. Flanges that fit into holes in the floor provide stability for the ring. The rubber is flexible enough to allow it to be pushed up tight against the flange structure under your toilet. It forms a watertight seal between all of these pieces when you push your toilet back down onto the flange structure.
Why should you use a waxless toilet seal instead of wax?
A waxless toilet seal is the only proven method for stopping toilet leaks. It is even tested and approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for this purpose. Wax, on the other hand, provides absolutely no protection against sewer gas leakage. Many plumbers use it because they don’t know that a better alternative exists!
Benefits of using waxless toilet seal
Waxless seals are a great way to save time and money! They are easy to install, last for years, and can be removed with no mess. But before you make the investment in a waxless seal, there are some things you should consider:
1. The seal is made of a waterproof material that can withstand harsh chemicals
2. It does not require any wax or other seals to be applied, which saves money and time
3. This kind of seal has been around for over 40 years and continues to be popular
4. Waxless toilet seals are available in different sizes, shapes, colors, and textures
5. They are easy to install with just a few steps – no tools required!
6. You’ll save on plumbing costs since you won’t need to replace the wax ring as often
Things to Consider Before Buying Wasless Toilet Seal:
Toilet flange size
You should measure the flange that you have now. The waxless toilet seal will only work with flanges that are either 3-5/8″ or 4-1/2″ in diameter. If your current flange is a different size, you can buy a separate adapter to make it compatible or you can replace your flange.
You should also measure the thickness of the floor, where you want to install it – especially if you plan on moving your toilet at some point. If your current flange is installed in a slab with little or no subfloor structure, the waxless seal will not be stable enough to support your toilet. It can move around and eventually crack due to pressure on the floor beneath it.
Minimum flange height
Your drain line should have enough clearance so that you can set your toilet down on top of the waxless seal without any interference. That means at least 1-1/2″ between the seat bolts and the back of the toilet. If there is not enough clearance, you can cut off part of the seal so your flange sits on top of it instead of inside it.
Maximum flange height
The top surface of your waxless seal needs to be about even with or just slightly below the top surface of your floor when the toilet is situated on it. If there is not enough difference, the seal will spread under the pressure of your weight and you could end up with a broken seal (or worse!)
You should only buy steel-bonded waxless toilet rings for use with vitreous china toilets or NM-B bonded waxless rings for use with plastic or fiberglass toilets.
You should only buy waxless toilet rings for use on concrete slabs, not wood floors!
It is necessary to have at least 3/4″ of subfloor structure so that your flange can attach to it using structural bolts (not included). To attach your flange to the subfloor structure, you will need a standard metal washer and a ring-shank nail.
The seal must be installed on top of a level concrete floor with no breaks or lumps under it that could interfere with its ability to form an airtight seal against the toilet.
